The Experimental Dance Company Waldete Brito is celebrating its 28th anniversary with the premiere of 'Mal Branco' in Belém, starting Friday, June 19th. Inspired by José Saramago's novel 'Blindness,' the contemporary dance piece explores themes of fear, vulnerability, social inequality, and the loss of empathy. Directed and dramatized by Waldete Brito, the performance features dancers Luan Silva and Rogério Filho. Brito chose Saramago's work for its enduring relevance to contemporary social issues, particularly the concept of 'social blindness.' The company, founded in 1998, is dedicated to researching and producing contemporary dance in the Amazon region, utilizing its independent experimental space for performances and artistic exchange. The anniversary marks a significant milestone for independent artistic production.
