Santos, a coastal city in São Paulo, has recorded a water waste rate of 5.35%, ranking as the second lowest among Brazil's 100 most populous cities. This finding comes from the 'Water Losses 2026' study, which analyzed data from 2024. Santos trails only Suzano (SP) with 1.27% water loss. The study evaluated water losses in distribution and per connection, with Santos performing exceptionally well in both metrics. In contrast, cities like Belo Horizonte, Parauapebas, and Nova Iguaçu showed significantly higher waste rates. Other cities in the Baixada Santista region also reported low waste percentages, with Cubatão and Itanhaém showing particularly strong results.
This highlights effective water management practices in Santos, contributing to resource conservation.
