Archaeologists Uncover Unprecedented Mayan-Influenced Ruins in Veracruz, Mexico

Mexican archaeologists have discovered ancient ruins in the eastern state of Veracruz that exhibit Mayan cultural signs alongside unique characteristics previously unseen in the region. President Claudia Sheinbaum has deemed the find "very relevant" and pledged government resources for its study and preservation. The site features a distinctive circular stone platform and a monolith depicting figures with potential Mayan attributes, dating back to the Early Classic period (200-600 AD). Researchers noted that the architectural style and the monolith's imagery are unlike anything recorded in this part of Mexico. The monolith itself, standing 1.88 meters high, may depict a scene related to a drought, with figures receiving a divine liquid, possibly water. This discovery offers new insights into pre-Hispanic cultures in the area.
