Judicial Commission of Pakistan Approves Interview Rules for Judicial Appointments

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved new rules governing interviews for judicial appointments, amending the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules, 2024. The commission also established criteria for nominating judges to constitutional benches. Performance evaluation rules for high court judges were deferred for further consideration. Chief justices and senior judges have been requested to submit their comments within seven days on these matters. The meeting, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, addressed several agenda items referred back by a committee. These included rules for interviews, judicial performance evaluation, and nomination criteria. The commission also considered a letter from the Balochistan Bar Council regarding amendments to JCP member nomination procedures. The approved rules aim to streamline and standardize the judicial appointment process.
