Russia Abolishes Independent Oversight of Architectural Heritage Sites
У Російській Федерації ухвалили закон, який з 1 березня 2027 року скасовує обов’язкову державну історико-культурну експертизу реставраційних проєктів, натомість створять «науково-методичні ради», чиї висновки можна ігнорувати.
The Russian Federation has enacted a new law that will eliminate mandatory state historical and cultural expertise for restoration projects starting March 1, 2027. Instead, 'scientific and methodological councils' will be established, whose conclusions can be disregarded. This legislative change effectively removes independent oversight from the process of restoring architectural heritage sites. Critics argue that this move will weaken protections for historical monuments and potentially lead to unregulated or inappropriate restoration efforts. The shift from mandatory expert review to advisory councils raises concerns about the preservation of Russia's cultural heritage.
The preservation of cultural heritage is vital for national identity and historical continuity, and legislative changes impacting oversight can have long-term consequences.
