The National Museum/UFRJ is reopening its doors to the public on June 21st, coinciding with its 208th anniversary, featuring two new temporary exhibitions: "Behind the Scenes of Science" and "Remnants of Memories." These exhibitions will run until August 30th and are free to visit, with tickets available weekly online. "Behind the Scenes of Science" showcases the museum's scientific and historical collections, including restored items and instruments made from materials salvaged from the 2018 fire. "Remnants of Memories," by artist Vik Muniz, uses ashes and fragments from the fire to create photographs and sculptures, exploring themes of memory, loss, and reconstruction. The initiative is part of the "National Museum Lives" project, focused on the museum's rebuilding process.
The reopening and new exhibitions offer a significant opportunity for the public to reconnect with the National Museum and witness its resilience and ongoing reconstruction.
