Passenger train services connecting Skopje with Veles, Gevgelija, and Bitola will be suspended from June 22 to July 1, 2026. The disruption is necessary to carry out construction work for the 'Urban Rail' project. Specifically, final construction activities on the Skopje-Veles railway line, between Skopje station and Zelenikovo station, require the suspension. Even the midday train from Bitola to Veles will be affected, despite not covering the entire reconstructed section. During this ten-day period, only two daily passenger trains to Kumanovo and back to Skopje will operate. Macedonian Railways Infrastructure announced that one route of the urban train, from Miladinovci via Ilinden and Madzari to the Transport Center, is expected to become operational from September 1.
This suspension of train services is crucial for the completion of the 'Urban Rail' project, impacting travel between Skopje and southern Macedonian cities.
