The National Migration Service (SENAMI) in Sofala province, Mozambique, has successfully prevented the illegal entry and stay of 29 foreign nationals, comprising 17 Malawians and 12 Ethiopians. The individuals were intercepted in the Marínguè and Caia districts through collaboration between SENAMI and the local population. Ethiopian citizens were using Mozambique as a transit route to South Africa, while Malawians were attempting to return from South Africa due to xenophobic incidents. SENAMI confirmed the entry occurred outside official border crossings and stated the individuals will be repatriated.
This operation demonstrates Mozambique's efforts to control its borders and manage irregular migration, highlighting the role of community cooperation in immigration enforcement.
