The White House’s Aliens.gov Site Brags That ICE Arrested More Than 700 US Citizens
The website, which compares human beings to extraterrestrials, touts arrest numbers from the Trump administration’s sweeping immigration crackdown. But some of its details are really out there.
A recently launched White House website, Aliens.gov, which uses extraterrestrial themes to discuss immigration arrests, has been updated following concerns about its data. The site initially listed nearly half a million arrests across thousands of locations, with a significant number of arrestees identified as U.S. citizens. In some areas, all listed arrestees were reportedly American-born. The website also categorized offenses, with "Immigration" and "Public Peace" being common. Notably, over a fifth of the flagged locations had no recorded criminal charges.
The website's use of space-themed rhetoric to frame immigration enforcement and its initial data inaccuracies raise questions about the administration's messaging and data transparency regarding immigration.
