This active galaxy features a supermassive black hole at its core, estimated to be 100 million times the mass of the Sun, which is actively consuming matter and expelling gas. M88's prominent spiral arms are adorned with vibrant star clusters and dust clouds, and the galaxy is viewed from an angle that accentuates its elongated shape.
M88 is part of the Virgo Cluster, a vast collection of over a thousand galaxies.
