Yei commissioner calls for more Ebola preparedness support

The Commissioner of Yei River County has called for increased support from health partners to help the County Health Department prepare for possible Ebola threats linked to outbreaks in neighboring Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo made the appeal during a one-day briefing that brought together health partners and county health officials to discuss public health priorities and Ebola preparedness, especially in border communities with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Yei River County borders both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Ebola outbreaks continue to raise concern over cross-border spread. In a statement issued this morning, Malimbo called on health partners to deepen cooperation with the County Health Department, especially in staff training, capacity building, and service delivery. He commended organizations already working in Yei for supporting Ebola preparedness activities in border areas, which he described as vulnerable due to their proximity to the DRC. The Director of Health for Yei River County, Simon Mosoga, said the county has received support from two health partners who are ready to join Ebola preparedness campaigns across the county.
