Three-year-old child dies in Melbourne house fire
A child has died in a house fire in Werribee and another person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating a fatal house fire in Werribee, in Melbourne's south-west.
A three-year-old child died and a 40-year-old man suffered serious burns in the blaze in Newbury Street.
Fire Rescue Victoria said the fire started just after midnight.
A three-year-old child and two family dogs have died in a house fire in Melbourne's south-west overnight.
Emergency services were called to a house in Newbury Street, Werribee, just after midnight.
Victoria Police said a resident of the home died and a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious burns.

Fire Rescue Victoria later confirmed the victim was a child.
The child's grandmother, Tracie Long, identified the victim as three-year-old Jordan Dashwood.
"I just miss that little man already, he's so precious, you know. He was so delightful, he was a bubble of energy," she said.

Ms Long said her daughter, Jordan's mother, was home with her partner and children at the time of the fire.
"She heard a bang and that was it, they had to get out. They tried to get the baby but they couldn't get him," she said.
"We need to know what happened and get down to it all, you know."

Relatives told the ABC another child, aged 11, escaped the fire by jumping out of a window.
The injured man is understood to be the father of the two children, Jeremy Dashwood.
Fire Rescue Victoria said crews arrived at the scene within three minutes of the blaze being reported to find the house fully ablaze.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Anthony Pearce said first responders were faced with a difficult task and he described the situation as "a real tragedy".
"[Country Fire Authority] crews were first on scene and were confronted with a very challenging situation, a very heavily involved house fire, a very chaotic scene," he said.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Pearce said investigators had not yet been able to determine how the fire started or in which room of the house.
"It's too early to tell, there's a lot of investigation both in the scene and engaging with people to try to understand what's happened," he said.
