Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has vowed to continue to advocate for the people of the state, insisting that his administration will not relent in defending their interests despite security challenges, political battles, and economic pressures. Mutfwang spoke on Sunday during a Thanksgiving service marking his third year in office, held at the COCIN Headquarters Church, Jos. “I won’t stop speaking for the people of Plateau State. We have said so many things concerning Plateau that are not in the media space. By the grace of God, we will continue to do that in the best interest of our people,” he said at the service. The event was attended by former governors, traditional rulers, church leaders, top government officials, legislators, and military leaders, including former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Martin Agwai (retd). Addressing concerns over whether the thanksgiving should be held amid recent developments, the governor said: “There was a debate whether this thanksgiving should be held or not in spite of all that has been happening, but when we remembered the scripture that in all things, we should give Him thanks, we decided to go ahead, and we are here.” The governor recalled how close he came to abandoning his ambition and the hurdles he faced after assuming office. “I almost gave up during the party primaries that brought me as governor, but I was driven by a desire to unite the state and provide good governance. “Even after assuming office, the forces against us did not stop. Immediately after assuming office, a reign of terror was unleashed on Mangu, my own LGA, and Riyom, the LGA of the deputy governor. “From there, there were also court cases that moved to the Supreme Court, all in an attempt to stop me. Who could have known that the son of a poor family would rise to become the governor of Plateau State? But in all of these, God has been with us,” he said. Mutfwang described the Supreme Court judgment of January 12, 2024, which affirmed his mandate, as divine rescue. “I escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler. If not for the Supreme Court, I was gone,” he said, recalling how market women celebrated the verdict by giving out goods free of charge. He also revealed that his campaign received unexpected support. “Three days to the primaries, somebody I had never known in my life gave me a gift and said, ‘Don’t open it until you get home.’ When I opened it, it was $100,000,” he said. He added that a prominent elder statesman from Plateau funded his entire campaign
