A fire that destroyed a Redcliffe home and damaged two other was allegedly started by the half-brother of murdered teenager Angus Beaumont.

A 36-year-old man who allegedly started a house fire that destroyed a home and damaged two others north of Brisbane is being held in a mental health ward.

Corey Wardle, the half brother of murdered teenager Angus Beaumont, has been charged with three counts of domestic violence attempted murder and two counts of arson.

Wardle is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court via video on Thursday.

Thirty-six-year-old Corey Wardle is facing six charges, including three counts of domestic violence attempted murder and two counts of arson.

Police allege the Dakabin man used an accelerant to set fire to the home of his mother Michelle Liddle and stepfather Ben Beaumont at Clontarf, in Redcliffe, on Saturday afternoon.

Today, the Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Mr Wardle was being held in a mental health ward and would not face court until Thursday.

According to the Queensland Police Service, the blaze destroyed Ms Liddle and Mr Beaumont's home and damaged two others, while surrounding neighbours were evacuated due to intense smoke.

Police say Mr Beaumont and Ms Liddle were inside with another person at the time, with all three managing to escape uninjured. Mr Wardle fled the scene but was located by the police dog squad a short time later.

In a post to Facebook, Mr Beaumont and Ms Liddle said they "just managed to get out of the house while the offender was dousing everything and the house".

They also called for the community to rally around their neighbours, who had been left homeless after the fire.

"They just recently moved in … they are a young couple, and all their possessions are [now] gone".

A fundraiser set up by a family member of the young couple, shared by Mr Beaumont, said they "had only just moved out of home for the first time"

"The home they had only just started building together was turned upside down through no fault of their own," a relative of the couple wrote.
