A 35-year-old man was arrested in a drug bust in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, in which suspected crystal meth worth R3 million was found under a mattress.
The man is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
According to Gauteng police, the arrest followed an intelligence-driven bust on Sunday involving Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team, and the West Rand K9 Unit.
The team acted on information that two men had been dealing in drugs in Diepsloot.
“Upon searching the premises, the team found a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress, containing suspected crystal meth drugs weighing about 10kg with an estimated street value of approximately R3 million,” police said in a statement.
Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, hailed the arrest and praised the officers involved in the operation.
“We remain committed [to] removing drugs from our streets and hold[ing] those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” Mthombeni said.
