The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says his administration is intensifying efforts to empower young entrepreneurs and strengthen business activities across the state. This is as he noted that Osogbo and surrounding communities are increasingly experiencing expanded commercial operations. Adeleke said the state has witnessed a significant boost in economic activities since he assumed office, adding that his government is deliberately creating an environment that supports investment and private sector growth. Speaking at the commissioning of a Backroom Lounge in Osogbo, the governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bunmi Jenyo, said parts of the state capital are now operating a growing 24-hour economy. “The state capital and some communities close to it are currently running 24-hour economy, describing the development as an indication of a significant boost in commercial activities stimulated by the state government,” he said. A Monday statement signed by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Ademiotan Adegbulugbe, quoted the governor as saying the administration has successfully repositioned Osun from being a purely civil service state. “Osun has changed from being a civil service state. This present administration changed that narrative. You can now see that every sector of Osun is working. We have had a lot of foreign investors,” he said. Adeleke also highlighted the case of the lounge proprietor, noting that despite being an indigene raised outside the state, he was encouraged to invest in Osun. “In 2024, this same investor opened a mini stadium which we commissioned. Today, we are commissioning another edifice within the same premises. He has opened a new restaurant and a lounge and you can see that this lounge is the latest in town,” he said. He added that the government’s deliberate policies have made Osogbo and its environs attractive for leisure and investment, reducing the need for residents to travel to Lagos for entertainment and business. “Osun is now running 24-hour business operations in Osogbo and its environment. We don’t have to go to Lagos to go and have our weekends. You can enjoy your weekend here,” he said. The governor assured that more young people would be supported to invest in key sectors, particularly hospitality and sports, as part of efforts to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. “We will encourage more youth entrepreneurs to site investment in the state,” he said.
