Oldest wooden tools in East Asia may have come from any of three species

Archaeologists have unearthed what could be the oldest wooden tools discovered in East Asia, dating back approximately 48,000 years. These ancient implements, found at the Shuidonggou site in China, were crafted from wood, challenging previous assumptions about early tool-making in the region. Analysis suggests the wood originated from one of three distinct species: a type of pine, a poplar, or a birch.
This discovery could necessitate a reevaluation of the prevailing theories regarding the use of bamboo versus other wood types in the early technological development of East Asian hominins.
