In a significant political development following the change of government and the political realignment in Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to hold a consultative meeting with the party’s post-poll alliance partners on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at a private hotel in Kovalam on the outskirts of Chennai.
On behalf of the TVK, party general secretary and Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources N. Anand, and general secretary (election campaign management) and Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Aadhav Arjuna have met the leaders of the alliance partners to invite them for the meeting.
They met Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president K.M. Kader Mohideen, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko, and leaders of the Congress and Left parties over the last three days and handed them over invitation letters from Mr. Vijay for the meeting.
In the letter, Mr. Vijay said he considered it his duty to thank them for their support in helping him form the government and expressed his willingness to hold a consultative meeting with them. Invitations have been extended to State-level office-bearers, MPs, and MLAs of the alliance partners to participate in the meeting.
The meeting convened by the TVK assumes significance against the backdrop of the disintegration of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance following the 2026 Assembly poll debacle. The meeting is widely seen as an outreach by the TVK to mobilise the support of the alliance partners for the bye-elections, which is likely to be held later this year, as seven seats in the Assembly remain vacant following the resignation of members includi
