After restaurants, Cyberabad civic body shifts food safety focus to school kitchens, finds hygiene lapses

Food items stored in the kitchen of a private school in Hyderabad. | Photo Credit: @CMC_Offcl on X The food safety teams of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Tuesday, June 30, extended their inspections beyond restaurants and conducted checks at the kitchens of three private schools in and around Hyderabad, identifying hygiene violations. At Glendale International School in Gopanpally, the inspection revealed patchy flooring with water stagnation in the wash area, food and non-food items stored together without proper segregation. The transport vehicle’s FSSAI licence was not produced during the inspection. In addition, dustbins without lids were observed, and bananas were found stored near washrooms without pallets. At Chirec International School in Kondapur, inspection revealed that lighting in one section of the kitchen required improvement. They also noted that the air curtains of the walk-in chiller needed cleaning, while several chopping boards were found to be worn out and required replacement. At The Gaudium School in Kollur, officials found a slippery floor in the washing area and noted that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence displayed on the premises belonged to another branch of the school.
