The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Hyderabad Bench, on Tuesday, dismissed an original application filed by IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre P.V. Sunil Kumar challenging the continuation of his suspension by AP government. Already, the AP government on Monday issued an order relieving the senior IPS officer from service from Tuesday on attaining superannuation even as his suspension continued. The Monday order said that disciplinary proceeding initiated against him before his retirement will continue under the provisions of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules-1969 and All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules-1958. The AP government first suspended him in March of 2025 on charges of making multiple visits to foreign countries without acquiring permissions from the State government. The visits allegedly included trips to Dubai. He was accused of developing interests in real estate in Dubai through this family members using funds acquired during investigation into some cases while he headed the Crime Investigation Department of AP. Sunil Kumar was also facing allegations of resorting to custodial torture of K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, presently Deputy Speaker of AP Assembly. While the IPS officer was CID chief then, Raju was an MP during that time. Former Chief Minister of AP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was arrayed one of the accused along with Sunil Kumar in this case. In February this year, the IPS officer approached the CAT Bench seeking his reinstatement as the AP government extended his suspension till finalisation of the criminal case and the disciplinary proceedings issued against him.
