The cyber crimes wing of the Kerala Police is taking serious measures to protect people from being defrauded by online loan apps and gaming sites, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said in the Assembly on Tuesday (June 30, 2026).
Replying to a submission by MLA Abin Varkey Kodiyattu regarding the need for awareness programmes to prevent digital fraud, Mr. Chennithala said that over a thousand cases of online fraud had been registered in every district. He added that the cyber crimes wing had been doing a commendable job in finding and removing fake apps from the digital space. About 1,836 fake loan apps have been blocked and 5,857 fake loan websites fully disabled.
The Kerala Police Cyberdome has been doing vigorous cyber patrolling to check fraudsters in cyberspace; fake social media ads, fake profiles, and instant loan sites through which people can lose money were being removed.
The National Cyber Crime Reporting portal’s helpline (1930) is functioning 24x7 at the police headquarters to handle complaints and help people inform banks and prevent them from being defrauded of money.
The police are also carrying out awareness programmes for the public as well as children, Mr. Chennithala added.
