AFP declares red alert in NCR amid Iglesia Ni Cristo rally at EDSA-White Plains

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has placed all its units in the National Capital Region under “red alert” amid the ongoing rally at the EDSA-White Plains area.

In a statement, the AFP said the red alert status was meant "to ensure heightened operational readiness.”

Amid the protest, the Iglesia Ni Cristo expressed support for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who, according to the Ombudsman, will be charged with plunder in connection with undeclared campaign contributions worth P75 million.

"This standard measure keeps AFP personnel and assets prepared to support civil authorities, when requested, in accordance with the Constitution, existing laws, and established procedures," the AFP said in a statement.

The AFP said that it was coordinating with the PNP and other agencies "to promote public safety, security, and the uninterrupted delivery of essential services." –NB, GMA News
