Serbian parliament speaker Ana Brnabic on Monday called for an interpretation of the Law on Electronic Media to resolve the stalemate with the country’s electronic media regulator.
The Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) has not been fully operational since late 2025 when all 4 of its independent members resigned. The Council members are chosen in a lengthy process in which empowered organizations nominate members. New members were nominated and confirmed in a disputed process by the parliamentary Culture and Information Committee but they resigned over what they said were violations of regulations.
Brnabic said a request will be submitted to parliament for an authentic interpretation of relevant provisions of the Law on Electronic Media, in order to clarify the status of four members of the REM Council who resigned. She said the procedure would be launched the same day and voted on at the next parliamentary session.
The REM is an independent body on paper deciding who gets national frequencies and ruling on violations of the law. It has been criticized
