Insta360 Enters Wireless Microphone Market with Mic Pro Featuring Color E-Ink Display

Insta360, best known for its action cameras and 360-degree imaging products, has unveiled the Insta360 Mic Pro, a wireless lavalier microphone system that marks the company's entry into the audio accessories space. The release comes ahead of the much-anticipated Insta360 Luna handheld gimbal camera, positioning the Mic Pro as a strategic addition to the company's content creation ecosystem. The Insta360 Mic Pro's standout feature is a color e-ink display on each transmitter unit, supporting six-color modules that users can customize with images, patterns, or text. This addresses a practical pain point for content creators who previously had to hide branded microphones or cover logos with tape during shoots. The e-ink display serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, allowing users to personalize their devices while maintaining a professional appearance on camera. On the technical side, the Mic Pro introduces a three-microphone array design, a first for the wireless lavalier category. This enables four pickup patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, and super-directional. The super-directional mode suppresses noise outside a roughly 60-degree field in front of the microphone while preserving ambient sounds like wind and water, making it particularly useful for outdoor filming scenarios. The device also features 32-bit floating-point internal recording, essentially an audio RAW format that gives editors extensive headroom in post-production for recovering clipped audio or adjusting levels. An integrated NPU module on the chip level handles real-time environmental noise separation, offering both weak and strong noise cancellation modes that adapt to different recording conditions. Insta360's move into audio follows a pattern set by DJI and Mamang, both non-traditional audio companies that drove the wireless lavalier category's growth from 2020 onward. The category emerged as a necessity driven by the miniaturization of handheld cameras like DJI Pocket and Insta360 GO Ultra, which lack the physical interface for traditional receiver-based microphone systems. The Mic Pro represents Insta360's effort to build a complete content creation ecosystem, filling the audio gap before its upcoming Luna camera launch.
