In a major development, a ₹100.69-crore drinking water project under the Centre’s AMRUT 2.0 scheme was launched at Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district. The objective of the project is to strengthen urban water infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of drinking water to the municipality and surrounding areas.

Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, Minister for BC Welfare S. Savita, Hindupur MP B.K. Parthasarathi and District Collector A. Shyam Prasad jointly laid the foundation stone for the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Satya Prasad said the coalition government was prioritising infrastructure and welfare while pursuing balanced regional development. He said that the project would provide a lasting solution to Penukonda’s drinking water needs and support the area’s rapid industrial and urban growth.

Minister Savita observed that the State government had expedited AMRUT 2.0 works across Andhra Pradesh after assuming office and was implementing major urban infrastructure projects. She said the Penukonda scheme had been designed to cater to the town’s growing population and industrial expansion, particularly in the Kia manufacturing belt.

Hindupur MP B.K. Parthasarathi said that the new drinking project would ensure a permanent water supply to Penukonda region and surrounding areas.

Collector A. Shyam Prasad called on the public to use water judiciously, prevent wastage by protecting public taps, and cooperate with sanitation workers to keep the town clean.
