Burglars allegedly broke into a locked house at Habeebnagar and decamped with cash, gold ornaments weighing 13 tolas and other valuables on Tuesday night.
The house owner had left for the Umrah pilgrimage eight days ago, leaving the house locked, said an officer from the Habeebnagar police station.
The burglary came to light on Wednesday morning when the owner’s brother, Rahman Mohiuddin, noticed that the front door lock had been broken and alerted the police.
Police reached the spot and collected fingerprints and other forensic evidence from the cupboards and doors of the house. According to Rahman, his brother informed him that cash, gold ornaments weighing 13 tolas and other valuables were missing from the house.
“Exact cash and other missing items will be tallied once the owners return from Umrah,” police said.
