Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to step up revenue mobilisation, plug leakages in tax and non-tax collections and prepare realistic budget estimates, as the Telangana government seeks to strengthen its finances while meeting expenditure commitments on welfare and infrastructure.

Reviewing the performance of revenue-generating departments, Mr. Reddy asked agencies such as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) to intensify revenue collection efforts. He directed the Commercial Taxes, Excise, Mining and other departments to ensure that there were no leakages in revenue collection.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to establish a dedicated monitoring cell to continuously track revenue-related issues and follow up on collections.

Stressing the need to improve administrative efficiency, Mr. Reddy asked departments to strengthen their institutional capacity and make use of artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate beneficiary databases with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to improve transparency and prevent duplication.

On budget preparation, he said allocations should reflect realistic revenue expectations and the financial requirements for completing ongoing projects. Land acquisition should be accorded priority, he said, while cautioning officials against preparing unrealistic budget estimates.

Assuring departments of the government’s support in achieving revenue targets, the Chief Minister said improving resource mobilisation required continuous monitoring and accountability.

Sources indicated that the government is aiming to generate additional revenue of over ₹35,000 crore without increasing taxes or imposing any fresh burden on the public, primarily by plugging leakages and tightening tax compliance mechanisms.
