Please Release Me It was always a great and heart warming sight when the Air Niugini balus flew into pick up Team PNG from a South Pacific Games. After the Tahiti Games the flight from Papeete had to refuel on the way back in Nadi. But officials there seized the plane claiming PNG had not paid some overflight fees for a number of years. The pilot, was getting nowhere with an Indian official and for a while it looked we would have to deplane in Fiji. Now the flight had been declared dry but it was noticed that the hosties were taking trays and trays of Coke up the back where the boxers and weightlifters were seated. Turned out they had tapped into their duty free purchases and were getting well-oiled and boisterous. This fact was pointed out to the official, and he was reminded of PNG's wild reputation in the Pacific . If he didn't want trouble he should let us go or we would disembark the boxers first . Didn't take long to convince him and 15 minutes later Team PNG was winging it's way home to the cheers of the inebriated boxers up the back .
