The royal trip marked the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic mission between Monaco and Spain, established on 14 July 1876.
“This commemoration forms part of the continuation of long-standing historical relations between Monaco and Spain, built on dialogue, cooperation and shared values,” reads an official statement. “It reflects the continuity of a long-standing diplomatic relationship that has evolved over time while maintaining its strength and stability.”
This was Princess Charlene’s first visit to Spain in her capacity as a royal.
Prince Albert and King Felipe had an official meeting and private lunch at the Palace of Zarzuela. The prince was accompanied by his chief of staff, Olivier Wenden, advisor to the government, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï and Ambassador of Monaco to Spain, Catherine Fautrier.
“Following the official ceremony of the presentation of the Monaco delegation, the two Heads of State discussed and praised the excellence of the relations that unite the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain,” the Monaco royal house said on Instagram.
Princess Charlene later joined the prince, king and Queen Letizia for a tour of commemorative exhibitions on Monday evening at the Villanueva Pavilion of the Royal Botanical Garden, according to Hola! magazine.
