Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has announced plans to inaugurate a committee to review the salary structure of primary school teachers across the state, assuring teachers that his administration remains committed to improving their welfare and ensuring full implementation of the minimum wage. The governor made the announcement.on Tuesday during an interactive session with primary school teachers, education secretaries, local government chairmen and other stakeholders held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi. Idris said the committee would be given 30 days to submit its report and recommendations on issues affecting teachers’ salaries and welfare. “I am going to inaugurate a committee that will look into the salary scale of primary school teachers across the state. The committee will be given 30 days to submit its report, and we will carefully consider its recommendations,” the governor said. He assured the teachers that their concerns would receive prompt attention, stressing that his administration would ensure fairness in implementing the minimum wage. Describing teaching as his constituency, Idris said he would not allow teachers to be shortchanged. “This government belongs to you because I am one of you. I am still a teacher, and it was your support and votes that brought me to this position. I will not allow anyone to cheat you,” he stated. The governor also cautioned teachers against allowing themselves to be used by individuals seeking to undermine his administration’s achievements. “I urge you not to allow anyone to distract you from the progress and achievements recorded so far. Let us continue to work together for the development of our state,” he added. During the meeting, the governor asked local government chairmen to clarify the status of salary adjustments for primary school teachers in their respective councils. The chairmen reportedly confirmed that salary increases had commenced but acknowledged that implementation was not yet complete. Idris further pledged to introduce loan schemes for teachers, including vehicle, motorcycle and housing loans, to enhance their welfare.
