Development and characterization of a neutron calibration field at the Isfahan MNSR
Correct estimation of neutron doses by well-calibrated dosimeters is crucial in radiation environments. Correct estimation of neutron doses by well-calibrated dosimeters is crucial in radiation environments. Consequently, well-controlled neutron fields are needed to perform calibrations and repeatability tests. In this study, a neutron calibration field (NCF) for neutron detectors and neutron dosimeters is being established and characterized based on the neutron radiography beamline of the Isfahan miniature neutron source reactor (MNSR). The proposed neutron calibration field properties including the neutron flux, neutron dose equivalent rate, neutron spectrum, neutron flux uniformity, thermal neutron content, and neutron flux stability were evaluated through experimental and computational methods. A good agreement was observed between the experimental findings and the computational outcomes. Results indicate that the Isfahan MNSR neutron field is suitable for calibrating neutron detectors and dosimeters.
