Murder arrests after teen dies in Luton stabbing

Police say a 17-year-old taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy in Luton.

Officers were called to reports of violent disorder in Kingsway Recreation Ground at about 18:30 on Friday, where a number of teenagers were seen carrying large knives.

The 17-year-old, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds but was pronounced dead shortly after, said Bedfordshire Police.

One of the teenage boys, initially arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, remains in police custody. The second boy is in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement, Det Ch Insp Nick Gardener condemned the "horrific violence" that has "sadly cost a teenage boy his life today".

"Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the boy who lost his life in such tragic circumstances," he said.

Such incidents have "a significant impact on our communities", he said.

He also urged the public to contact police with any information they have and not to share any images and videos circulating on social media.

An increased police presence and patrols will remain in the area.

"We would also like to remind the public to not share any distressing videos or images as this can be concerning for family involved, and also form a vital part of our police investigation," he said.

Zanib Raja, a councillor for the Biscot Ward in Luton, also asked people not to share alleged videos of the incident online.

In a statement on Facebook, she said: "A tragic incident took place today in Kingsway Park, a place many of us grew up in, played in, and built memories in.

"A place that should be safe for families, children, and every resident of our town. Instead, a man lost his life in broad daylight. A family has been shattered. Luton is hurting."
