Three rushed to hospital after four-way crash on Gympie Road

The crash has caused significant traffic on the major arterial road headed towards the city.

Three people were rushed to hospital after a four-way crash on one of Brisbane’s busiest roads during the peak hour on Wednesday morning.

Three cars and a motorcycle were involved in the crash just before 8.30am on Gympie Road, near Kedron Street, in Kedron.

The 46-year-old male motorcycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries, while two women, one in her 20s and one in her 80s, incurred potentially life-threatening injuries. All were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The younger woman suffered head injuries in the crash. The woman in her 80s had chest pain, and may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.

A woman in her 50s suffered minor injuries and declined transport to hospital.

Traffic lights at the major intersection of Gympie Road and Rode Road were turned off following the crash, with police directing the significant amount of backed-up traffic.

Drivers heading towards the city experienced major delays on Gympie Road, with traffic still queuing at 10am from the site of the crash all the way to Westfield Chermside, about 2½ kilometres away.
