Nigeria’s medal haul at the 2026 African Taekwondo Championships in Bamako, Mali, has grown to seven, with the country claiming three gold medals, one silver and three bronze at the World Taekwondo-sanctioned G-4 tournament at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Mali, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. The latest additions came from the Poomsae event on Tuesday, where Aderibigbe Faridah claimed gold in the Freestyle Poomsae category. She also teamed up with Salawudeen Abdulafeez to win silver in the Pair Poomsae event. Earlier in the competition, Haruna Usman had added a second gold in the Poomsae U-40 Male category, while Para-Taekwondo athlete Mathew Udom’s dominant display on Monday had delivered the first gold in the -57kg Kyorugi category. Nigeria’s bronze medals came from Joel Jordan in the men’s +87kg Kyorugi division, Chidinma Okoko in the women’s -62kg Kyorugi category — having defeated Mali’s Samake Goundo in the quarterfinals before falling short in the semifinals — and Salawudeen Abdulafeez in the Poomsae U-30 Male event. Morocco dominated the Kyorugi event, sweeping eight gold medals to finish as overall champions.
