Tambuwal mourns Sokoto bandit attack victims, seeks enhanced security

Former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has expressed profound grief over the recent bandit attack on Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, describing the incident as a tragic reminder of the persistent security challenges facing communities in the state. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tambuwal condemned the killings, destruction of property and displacement of residents caused by the attack, saying the continued targeting of innocent citizens is unacceptable. “I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the unfortunate attacks on Dangulbi community. These repeated attacks on innocent citizens are painful, unacceptable and a direct assault on the peace and security of our communities,” he said. The senator extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attack and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. He also expressed sympathy with residents who have been displaced or affected by the violence. Tambuwal prayed for Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and asked for strength and comfort for their families during this difficult period. He also offered prayers for the safe return of persons reportedly abducted during the attack. Raising concerns over the recurring nature of such incidents, the former governor urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities across the Sokoto-Zamfara axis. “Our people deserve to live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear,” he stated, calling for sustained and coordinated measures to tackle banditry and other security threats. Tambuwal reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance security and protect lives and property across Sokoto State and the country at large. The attack occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2026, when heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles stormed Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The assailants reportedly opened fire on residents, killing at least 17 people, including seven visitors who had travelled to the area for
