Disruptive rain, which may lead to flooding, and very cold, windy conditions are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape, with snow in some areas, according to the South African Weather Service.

Isolated thundershowers are forecast for the rest of the country, except in Limpopo, where fine and cool to warm conditions are expected.

Yellow Level 4 warning: Wind and waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, as well as small vessels taking on water, are expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.

Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging waves are expected, leading to small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing, as well as difficulty in navigation, between Plettenberg Bay and KuGompo.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation. SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, level 5 is medium and Level 4 and 8 is low.

Very cold, wet, and windy conditions are expected over the Eastern Cape, the central and eastern interior of the Western Cape, as well as the southern parts of the Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape. Light snowfall is expected over the mountain tops of the central and eastern Western Cape and the higher-lying areas of southern Namakwa.

Gauteng: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches over the Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be warm over the Lowveld.

Limpopo: Partly cloudy in the south-west, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

North-West: Cloudy, windy and cool to cold with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Free State: Cloudy, windy and cold to very cold with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the south-west.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy in the far west, otherwise cloudy, windy and cold to very cold with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape: Partly cloudy in the extreme west, where it will be cool, otherwise cloudy and cold with isolated to scattered showers and rain, but widespread in the east. It will be very cold in the Central Karoo with light snow over the high-lying areas.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy and cold to very cold with widespread showers and thundershowers, with snow on the high-lying areas in the north.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly, becoming southerly at times.
