A US plan to hit 60 countries including Australia with new tariffs drew condemnation from the government and opposition. US President Donald Trump’s latest round of import taxes would see Australian goods subject to a 12.5 per cent levy – an increase on the current 10 per cent tariff – from July 24. The US claims the tariffs are warranted due to anti-slavery violations.
And in Queensland, authorities have deployed sniffer dogs and thermal imaging cameras after a young Tasmanian devil escaped their Gold Coast enclosure. The search for Mary is now into its third day, and Paradise Country wildlife park staff have made the educated guess that she escaped via “an abnormally large leap”.
