The Gombe Network of Civil Society Organisations has condemned the increasing cases of child abduction, kidnapping, and violence against children across Nigeria, describing the trend as a serious threat to the safety and future of the nation’s children. In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of GONET, Ambassador Ibrahim Yusuf, and the Secretary, Dr Ben Maina, on Thursday, the network expressed concern over what it described as the growing insecurity affecting children across the country. According to the statement, the abduction of children constitutes a gross violation of human rights and undermines efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for young people. “GONET strongly condemns the increasing cases of child abduction, kidnapping, and other forms of violence against children occurring across the country. “The abduction of innocent children is a grave violation of human rights and poses a serious threat to the safety, well-being, and future of our society. Children deserve to grow in a secure environment free from fear, violence, and exploitation,” the statement read. The organisation called on security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at preventing such crimes, rescuing victims, and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. “We call on security agencies at all levels to intensify efforts toward preventing these crimes, rescuing victims, and ensuring that perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” the statement added.
