Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to tell a summit today that the federal government's budget measures are an attempt to push back against "economic dislocation".
Let's get a little more on the Coalition's plan to introduce a bill to parliament, which would allow human override of automated aged care assessments.
The government has come under scrutiny for its use of the Integrated Assessment Tool to determine the level of government funding a person should get and the priority they should be given.
Speaking at a press conference, Shadow Health Minister Anne Ruston says the bill will ensure that the assessor can override decisions.
Ruston says the proposed law will also force the government to provide greater transparency about what sits behind the technology that provides assessment results.
"We've heard so many stories, harrowing stories from older Australians, who have been left without care, denied care, or had to wait for months and months for care," Ruston says.
"Some we've even heard have died waiting for that care. Those stories are real stories. They are the real human face of the failure of this government."
The shadow health minister says while she has no problem with technology being used to assist and speed up decision-making, a computer shouldn't make a decision.
