The wave of defections in the House of Representatives intensified on Thursday as four lawmakers from Bauchi State dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the Allied Peoples Movement. The development marks the latest shift in political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election. The defections were formally announced during plenary when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters from the affected lawmakers notifying the House of their decision to leave the PDP. The lawmakers are Muhammad Shehu, representing Zaki Federal Constituency; Aliyu Garu, representing Bauchi Federal Constituency; Sani Tanko, representing Shira/Giade Federal Constituency and Mansur Soro, representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency. Also announcing a change of political allegiance was Jeremiah Umaru, who represents Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State. The movement of the four Bauchi lawmakers is particularly significant given the PDP’s longstanding influence in the state and comes amid increasing political activity surrounding the state’s future power dynamics. Thursday’s development follows a series of defections recorded in the House within the last week.
