The Andhra Pradesh Primary Teachers Association (APPTA) has urged the State government to hold a separate Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers, after the Supreme Court dismissed review petitions seeking exemption from the TET for serving teachers.

In a statement, APPTA State president Prakash Rao and general secretary M. G. Mehdi said that, given the Supreme Court’s decision, the government should give in-service teachers a chance to clear the TET.

They said the Telangana government had ordered a special TET for in-service teachers twice a year. “We have also requested the Andhra Pradesh government to adopt a similar policy and conduct separate TET for serving teachers twice annually, instead of making them appear in the regular TET,” they said.

The association leaders said they had submitted representations to Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh, Education Principal Secretary Kona Sasidhar and School Education Commissioner Thameem Ansariya, seeking immediate action.
