DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, said the research to be discussed at the first International Conference on People’s Empowerment and Wellbeing will help in improving policies, strategies and laws to bring about good social welfare and empowerment of people. Speaking today, June 5, 2026,in Dar es Salaam at the Conference, Dr Gwajima said they will discuss various areas including health, education, economy and improving citizens’ issues with the private sector such as non-governmental organizations being able to effectively empower people. “The conference has been organized by the Institute of Social Welfare, their aim is to present various publications and studies conducted in 11 countries to discuss them and set their goal of empowering people to participate in the development of their countries. She added “Researchers are coming with their studies that say in this area we should do this, the report of this conference will help in improving our policies as well as various strategies and laws to facilitate the development of people,” emphasized Dr Gwajima. She said they are grateful for the presence of the conference because Tanzania is now on the 2050 vision, which talks about the empowerment, upbringing, and development of children and economic empowerment. ALSO READ: Mkuju Uranium Project to make Tanzania among largest producers of uranium globally For her part, the Dean of the Institute of Social Work (ISW) Dr Joyce Nyoni said that the conference will bring together 250 participants from 11 countries inside and outside the African continent where they will discuss, exchange ideas and experiences in order to strengthen social welfare “Here we will listen to four open debates from different presenters and we will have six important topics which are gender empowerment and social, child protection, children’s rights and youth welfare, mental health and psychological well-being, common sense, technology and digital use, economic empowerment, community and life protection and Leadership, conduct and institutional development. Dr Nyoni said the expectation of the meeting is to obtain three things which are solid evidence that will support policy setting and implementation, a good continuation of the meeting including the strength of the presentation and review of studies conducted by the university and the third issue is to obtain a new network of researchers, stakeholders and policy makers.
