The prevailing mixed weather of thunderstorms, rainfall, and heatwave conditions in Andhra Pradesh is likely to continue for the next three days, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain said on Friday.
In a statement, Mr. Jain said light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places in Polavaram, East Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Markapuram, Kurnool and Nandyal districts on Saturday. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected at isolated locations in the remaining districts.
The APSDMA has advised the public not to take shelter under trees, electricity poles, or hoardings during thunderstorms. Farmers and cattle grazers have been urged to remain particularly vigilant and move to safe locations immediately when the sky becomes overcast and thunder is heard.
People have also been warned to watch out for fallen power lines caused by strong winds and to maintain a safe distance from them.
Mr. Jain said severe heatwave conditions are likely in 56 mandals on Saturday, while heatwave conditions are expected in 51 mandals, taking the total affected mandals to 107. The districts expected to experience severe heatwave conditions include Srikakulam (11 mandals), Vizianagaram (20 mandals), Parvathipuram-Manyam (14 mandals), Alluri Sitharama Raju (one mandal), Polavaram (two mandals) and Kakinada (eight mandals).
Temperatures may hover between 42°C and 44°C in parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, and Kakinada districts, while parts of Anakapalli, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts are expected to record between 40° C and 42° C.
