Two men, who were earlier arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Fast Track Special Court for Trial and Disposal of Rape and POCSO cases at Medchal-Malkajgiri District on Friday. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each accused and awarded ₹5 lakh compensation to the victim.

The convicted persons, Shiva Kumar, 45, and his son Samuel alias Samil alias Samel, 21, both residents of Kompally and natives of Gulbarga in Karnataka were arrested by the Petbasheerabad police.

The incident was reported on August 10, 2023, when the victim’s parents, who had gone out for labour work in the morning, left their seven-year-old daughter and her sibling at home. On their return, they found the child in a distressed condition and with injuries. The victim later disclosed that the two accused, who were their neighbours, had taken her to their residence and sexually assaulted her.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, police registered a case and arrested both accused on August 12, 2023. They were subsequently remanded to judicial custody, and after completion of investigation, a charge-sheet was filed.
