Shivamogga district administration conducted a comprehensive mock drill at Nehru Stadium on Friday to test its preparedness for emergency situations and create public awareness of safety protocols during aerial attacks.

The exercise, conducted under Union Home Ministry directives, involved over 300 personnel from police, home guards, NCC, fire services, the Health Department, and the Revenue Department.

A two-minute siren alerted residents to a simulated aerial attack. Emergency responders evacuated people from the “attack” zone and rescued those trapped under collapsed structures. Ambulances transported the “injured” to hospitals, while bomb disposal and scene-of-crime teams were deployed to the site.

In a second scenario, armed militants hijacked a bus with passengers. Police cordoned off the area and, after breaching the vehicle and apprehending the assailants, safely evacuated all hostages.

Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalakatti, who oversaw the drill, said the exercise was designed to build public confidence and strengthen swift emergency response capabilities. “All departments must coordinate effectively to handle such situations,” he said.

Superintendent of Police Nikhil B. commended the coordination demonstrated by officials from various departments during the exercise. Additional DC Abhishek V. and Additional SP A.G. Cariappa were among those present.
