SIR set to begin in Dharwad district from June 30; VFCs, BLO facility centres for assistance

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is all set to begin in Dharwad district from June 30. Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad and District Election Officer Snehal R. has sought the cooperation of the political parties and general public for successful completion of the exercise.
Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Friday (June 5), Ms. Snehal said that the SIR exercise would be conducted till October 7, as per the direction of the Election Commission of India.
She said that October 1 has been fixed as the eligibility date for the electoral roll. “From June 20 to 29, the process of preparing the electoral roll, training and printing will be taken up. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit houses from June 30 to July 29 and the draft electoral roll will be published on August 5. People will have time from August 5 to September 4 to file objections, and disposal of objections will be taken up from August 5 to October 3. The final voters list will be published on October 7,” she explained.
Dharwad district has seven Assembly segments with 1,665 polling stations and 16,22,294 voters, including 8,05,624 male, 8,16,572 female and 98 voters belonging to the third gender. For the SIR, 1,665 BLOs and 230 BLO supervisors have been appointed.
She said that so far, the Congress and BJP had appointed BLOs, and other political parties should immediately appoint BLOs and submit the BLO-2 forms to voter registration officers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that VFCs (Voter Facilitation Centres) had been established to organise special camps to assist voters. For 1,665 polling stations, 452 VFCs have been established. Technical assistance will be provided to the BLOs to upload the forms and requisite documents submitted by the voters, she said.
