A day after portfolios were allocated to Cabinet Ministers, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar faced trouble from senior colleagues, as one resigned and another publicly expressed unhappiness over allocation. Amid the discontent, the Chief Minister clarified that the decision on allocation was taken by the Congress high command and it cannot be set aside.

While miffed at not given Bengaluru Development portfolio, Ramalinga Reddy sent his resignation letter to the Chief Minister, another senior Minister K.H. Muniyappa said unless a portfolio that befits his seniority is given, he would not take charge of the Food and Civil Supplies Department allocated to him.

However, the Congress high command is learnt to have taken a strong stand against such public postures by disgruntled Ministers and instructed not to accommodate their demands.

Mr. Reddy, who signed his resignation letter in the media, also refused to go personally to hand over the resignation letter. He said the letter would be sent through an official. Howeveer, he clarified that he will remain in the Congress as a legislator.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muniyappa, fired a salvo by stating seniors should be allocated portfolios that are “useful for society”. He is learnt eyeing Social Welfare Department that is yet to allocated. The implementation of internal reservation issues seems to be weighing on his mind, sources said.
