Leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Agege Constituency I, Lagos State, on Friday stormed the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja to demand a review of the outcome of the Lagos State House of Assembly primary election. The protesters, made up of party chairmen and secretaries from the five wards in the local government area, rejected the published result of the May 20, 2026 primary election, alleging that it was manipulated in favour of an aspirant who did not win the contest. Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Let All Votes Count in APC Primaries,” “APC National Leadership, Hear the Voice of Agege 1,” and “Our Votes Must Count,” the group called for the immediate intervention of the party leadership. Under the leadership of Johnson Kolawole, the protesters submitted a petition dated June 1, 2026, to President Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and members of the party’s National Working Committee. Speaking with journalists, Kolawole said the petition was aimed at protecting the integrity of the primary election and preserving the will of party members. He stated, “We, the underlisted persons, write on behalf of all the members of the All Progressives Congress, Agege Local Government chapter, and the five ward executives that constitute Agege Constituency 01. “We are petitioning against the wrongful publication and nomination of Oluwagbenga Michael Abiola as the winner of the primary election. Mr. Egunjobi Ganiyu Kola is the actual winner of the exercise. Egunjobi scored 9,132 votes out of a total of 10,126 votes cast across the five wards. Meanwhile, another aspirant, Mr. Oladipo Tunde Shola, polled 560 votes, while the published beneficiary, Mr. Michael Abiola, trailed with just 434 votes. “Egunjobi was duly screened, cleared, and declared the winner by the designated Returning Officer, Hon. Kayode Kassim Eleshin, at the conclusion of the exercise. “The primary election was monitored by APC officials, INEC observers, security agencies, journalists, and other stakeholders. The entire process was peaceful, transparent, and highly credible.
