This investment, stemming from a parliamentary amendment, will be used to renovate the existing animal shelter, construct a new Zoonosis Surveillance Unit, and enhance municipal animal housing facilities. The city also plans to centralize and expand its animal protection services with the new infrastructure. This funding follows a previous R$ 1.5 million allocation in 2025 for similar purposes. The new Zoonosis unit, slated to begin construction in the latter half of 2026, will feature specialized areas for dogs and cats.
