The Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) is currently investigating several integrity cases involving senior Royal Malaysia Police officers, specifically those holding the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner and above. Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, confirmed that public complaints have been received and forwarded to the IPCC for action. He emphasized that police personnel are now under scrutiny not only from the internal Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) but also from external agencies like the IPCC. Ayob Khan stated he is personally monitoring these high-ranking cases to ensure appropriate measures are taken, highlighting that misconduct, particularly corruption, is no longer solely handled through internal channels.
The establishment of the IPCC signifies a heightened level of external oversight for police conduct, aiming to bolster public trust in law enforcement by ensuring accountability for misconduct.
